Welcome to Merrow Infants PTA

Welcome to Merrow and welcome to our Parent Teacher Association (PTA). This is one of many ways parents can get more involved in the dynamic, caring and family ethos of our school.

All parents, guardians and carers of children at Merrow are automatically members of Merrow PTA and there are many ways you can be involved. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to speak to one of the contacts listed below or your class representative.

PTA events and activities

At Merrow the PTA arranges a number of events and social activities for the whole family to enjoy, these include: coffee mornings; quiz nights; summer and Christmas fair; Easter activities and Family fun evening. The children also freeze pop fridays and visiting theatre performances.

All these events are organised and run by parent/teacher volunteers. The PTA team meet a couple of times a term in the evening (over a glass of wine) to distribute roles and plan future activities. Everyone is welcome.

Supporting the school

Through the PTA, parents are invited to share in day to day school life through lunch club rota; puzzle club rota; gardening days; classroom reading; Harvest box distribution.

If you are interested in volunteering in this way, please contact the PTA chair who can put you in touch with the appropriate person.

Fundraising

The PTA hold a number of fundraising activities throughout the year to support the purchase of equipment and resources to enhance our children’s education experience and the school’s facilities. These activities include the annual fairs; sponsored events; filling Smartie tubes, sale of calendars and cards; cake sales; supporting grant applications.

Funds raised over the last few years have bought new laptops and ipads; interactive white boards; library books; PA system; and the all weather trim trail.  Each year the PTA donates funds to each class for classroom resources which directly benefit the children, it also funds special events such as touring theatre performances and the leavers party.

Links with local businesses and the community

Over time the PTA have developed strong links with the local community and are always well supported by both residents and businesses, for which we are very grateful. Many of our local shops are very generous providing sponsorship, donations for raffle prizes and more. Some have taken part in our Christmas and summer fairs. And every year children are involved in community activities including the Year 2 children Maypole Dance at the Parish Summer Fair.

Make friends

Merrow Infants PTA wants to ensure everyone is made to feel welcome at Merrow. If you are new to the area or know very few people locally, you will soon feel welcome through the regular coffee mornings and events. Each class has one or two parents acting as Class Reps who may also be a good person to speak to. They are also responsible for circulating PTA emails and look for people to help out at events as and when they are needed.

Keep in touch

You can check the PTA noticeboards on the way into school, or by the classrooms as well as here on the website for the latest information. The PTA also send out a newsletter via parent mail as well as rely on good old fashions word of mouth!!

There is an Open Meeting each term when anyone can turn up to hear what is in the pipeline or suggest new ideas.

Final word …..

How involved you get is up to you, but please do get involved and enjoy some events and activities organised by the PTA, as parents ourselves we know it will make yours and your children's time at Merrow that little bit more special..
