Early Years Foundation Stage
This is a crucial stage of life in terms of children’s physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. It is a time when children particularly need high quality care and learning experiences, within a happy and secure environment and this is what we provide at Merrow CE Infant School. Activities planned by the teachers relate to the ‘early learning goals’. Most children are expected to achieve these by the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
The curriculum for the Early Years Foundation Stage underpins all future learning by supporting, fostering and promoting children’s learning in –
· Three prime areas -
o Communication and Language
o Physical Development
o Personal, Social and Emotional Development
· Four specific areas -
o Understanding of the World
o Expressive Arts and Design
All our Reception staff are qualified in Early Years education and one of our teachers is a Lead Foundation Stage Practitioner.
We are fortunate to have spacious and well equipped classrooms. The accommodation is light, airy and attractive offering the children the environment they need, both indoors and out.
